The Story Behind the Art Following his Confirmation at age 9, Richard’s mother brought him to see the famous Traveling Statue of Our Lady of Fatima that wept real tears. Standing alone before the beautiful statue, young Richard felt Mother Mary’s very real presence for the first time. His mother also enrolled him in the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, planting a seed of faith and growing it with the graces that come from the perpetual Mass enrollment.

This painting is the culmination of that lifelong devotion, specifically drawing upon Sister Lucia’s later visions at Pontevedra and Tuy. It is in those quiet visions that Our Lady explicitly revealed her Immaculate Heart encircled by thorns, asking for our prayers, our reparations, and our First Saturday devotions to bring her consolation.
